The Purpose You’re Searching For Is Already in You

We spend so much of our lives asking the same question: What is my passion?
What am I supposed to be doing?
What’s my purpose? You know, we search. We overthink. We compare ourselves to other people. Sometimes we choose certain jobs because we need stability. Sometimes we’re in relationships because they make sense at the time. Life just… moves. Responsibilities grow. And somewhere in the middle of all that, there’s this little nudge inside of us that says: I feel like I’m meant for more.
Something feels unfulfilled. So we start looking outside of ourselves for answers. We scroll. We watch other people. We wonder what they have that we don’t. But here’s something I’ve learned: What you’re trying to find is already inside you. The challenge isn’t that you don’t have a passion.
The challenge is that you’re often too distracted to hear it. Finding your passion requires stillness. And I know, being quiet isn’t always easy. The world is loud. Our thoughts are loud. Social media is loud. Expectations are loud. But when you allow yourself to be quiet even just for a little while, you start noticing what really lights you up. Pay attention to what excites you naturally. It could be something simple. A hobby. A small act. A moment where you feel fully alive and don’t want it to end. That feeling? That’s a clue. For example, I have a loctician who absolutely loves doing hair. When you sit in her chair, you can feel it. She’s not just styling locs, she’s uplifting people. She creates an atmosphere that feels warm, safe, and affirming. Her presence alone shifts the room. That’s purpose. It’s not just about the task. It’s about the energy behind it. I also know someone who struggled for a long time trying to figure out their purpose. They kept asking, “What am I supposed to do?” But one thing they’ve always loved is cooking. When they cook, they light up. They’re creative. They’re happy. They feel fulfilled. So I said, “Why not follow that?” It doesn’t have to mean opening a restaurant tomorrow. Maybe it’s cooking for your family. Maybe it’s hosting small gatherings. Maybe it becomes something bigger later. Purpose doesn’t always start as a grand announcement. Sometimes it starts as joy. The key is noticing what makes you feel deeply satisfied at the end of the day. What makes you excited to wake up and do it again? What makes you lose track of time? That excitement is guidance. Your passion isn’t something you chase.
It’s something you recognize. And once you recognize it, you follow it. Even in small ways. Those small steps create clarity.
Clarity creates alignment.
Alignment leads you directly to your path. You don’t have to force it.
You don’t have to compare your journey to anyone else’s. Just get quiet.
Notice what lights you up.
And follow that feeling. Your purpose has been within you all along. So here’s what I want you to think about: What’s one thing you do that makes you lose track of time, that lights you up, that makes you feel alive? Notice it. Follow it. That little spark might just be your path.
